James Burdette Wittrock, the son of Edward and Annetta (Troxel) Wittrock, was born April 5, 1927 in Hartley, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the Sutherland area, until moving to the family farm south of Hartley on March 2, 1942. He finished his education in Hartley, graduating from Hartley High School.
Jim remained on the family farm throughout his life, for 45 years, until his retirement on February 20, 1992. He was associated with the Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting on occasion, coin collecting and was very interested in his nieces' and nephews' activities, but his true passion was always farming.
Jim passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Keith.
Left to cherish his memory are his one brother, Richard Wittrock and his wife, Shirley of Milford, IA; two sisters: Dorothy Thomas of Bellevue, NE and Betty Stone and her husband, Gordon of Marathon, IA; sister-in-law, Betty Wiitrock of Council Bluffs, IA; 13 nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
The family will have a public gathering where they will receive friends from 12-3 p.m.,on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Community Center in Hartley.
