James Clare O'Meara, the son of William Clare and Viola (Schulke) O'Meara, was born April 22, 1930 in Galva, Iowa. He was raised in Galva, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating from Galva High School in 1947. Following his schooling, he worked at the Galva lumberyard for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Jim married Dorothy Bauer on October 11, 1956 in Maryhill Visitation Church near Cherokee, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Galva for many years, where he worked as a petroleum salesman with Co-op and later worked at the Galva Union Elevator until his retirement in 1994. In 2002, they moved to Spencer, Iowa. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer since 2002. He had previously served as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Good Council Church in Holstein, IA. Jim was also a member of American Legion Post #454 in Galva, IA and also was active in the Galva community, serving on the school board, little league coach and on the volunteer fire department. He was also active in a bowling league, card club, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
James passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the age of 80. His parents and a sister-in-law, Beverly O'Meara, preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy of Spencer; his three children: Kathryn and her husband, Roger Johnson of Spencer, Richard and his wife, Kristin O'Meara of Rochester, MN and Karen and her husband, Lance Oyen of Rochester, MN; 9 grandchildren; three brothers: William O'Meara of Storm Lake, IA, Gerald and his wife, Rose O'Meara of Schaller, IA and Ronald and his wife, LaVonne O'Meara of Hinton, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visitation will be open after 12noon on Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at the Warner Funeral Home.
There will be a Catholic Vigil Service at 5:30P.M., Wednesday also at the funeral home.
MUSIC
INTERMENT
Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Thursday at the Calvary Cemetery in Holstein, Iowa.
Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #454 of Galva.
