James Darwin Montgomery, the son of Percy and Hazel (Moats) Montgomery, was born on October 2, 1935, in George, IA. His childhood years were spent in Sioux Falls and Spencer areas, were he graduated from high school. On September 11, 1953, he entered into the military, serving in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on August 14, 1956. After his service, he lived in Primghar. He also met Frances Wiese and they married on August 15, 1958, in Hospers and he attended school at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA.
The couple lived in several communities around northwest Iowa before settling in Spencer in 1963. James worked at Wells Blue Bunny delivering milk, Morton Buildings and was a custodian at Sacred Heart Catholic School. James spent most of his career, over 20 years, at John Deere, first as a truckdriver and then as the partsman. In 2001, he retired and then 6 months later he began working at Del's, delivering flowers. James enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards. He kept track of his grandkids by staying in touch with them on facebook and recently enjoyed quilting with his daughter. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church since 1963 and sang for many services over the years. He was also a fixture at the Mainstreet Caf�.
James passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Frances of Spencer; his son, John and his wife, Christy of Carroll, IA; two daughters: Patricia Montgomery of Spencer and Teresa Kanago and her husband, Kerwin of Spokane, WA; 4 grandchildren; one sister, Betty Cooper of Alcester, SD; one sister-in-law, Catherine Montgomery of Menomonee Falls, WI; one brother-in-law, Dr. James Wiese and his wife, Clarice of Marcus, IA; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Hope Reformed Church.
