James Edward Bendlin, the son of Clarence and Mary Jane Freeburg Bendlin, was born July 2, 1959 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1977.
Jim married Paula Rabel on October 1, 1977 in Spencer. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Sioux Rapids. He started his own woodworking business, Little Sioux Workshop in 1987. They continued to live in Sioux Rapids, until moving to the family farm in 1994. Jim truly enjoyed working with all of his clients and many times they ended up becoming his friend. He also enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle on many trips, going on cruises and spending time with his family and friends by the bonfire on his farm. His family was most important to Jim and he would do anything for his children.
Jim passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, August 30, 2008 following a yearlong bout with cancer at the age of 49. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Paula of Spencer; five children: Jimmy and his wife, Julie Bendlin of Webb, IA, Jeff and his wife, Melissa Bendlin of Spencer; Amanda, John and Allison Bendlin all of Spencer; two brothers: Bob and his wife, Sue Bendlin and Larry and his wife, Laura Bendlin all of Spencer; a sister, Susan and her husband, Bob Morgan of Grants Pass, OR; his mother-in-law, Gerry Rabel of Spencer; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church
