James "Jim" Franklin Hypse, the son of Taniel and Frances Brown Hypse, was born April 2, 1928, in Wakefield, NE, and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1946. Jim then attended St. Louis School of Mortuary Science in 1949. In 1951, Jim served in Grave Registration of the U.S. Army in Korea until he was honorably discharged in 1952 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He graduated from Wayne State College in 1954. He received his Masters of Education from Greeley, Colorado in 1958.
On May 29, 1955, Jim was united in marriage to Barbara Morey in Wayne, NE. Jim taught school at Sentral of Fenton, IA, and Spencer, IA Community Schools, and was Principal of Spencer Junior High from 1965-1975, and then returned to the classroom until his retirement in 1990. Jim was a founding member of Daybreakers Kiwanis. He was also a member of the American Legion, Methodist Men and LaDanza Dance Club. His enjoyment was high school sports, Husker football and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Jim passed away on April 14, 2012, at Longhouse Residence Nursing Home in Spencer, IA, at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara of Spencer, IA; one son, Don and wife, Terri of Wayne, NE; one daughter, Nancy Purscell of Papillion, NE; 3 granddaughters: Amy Hypse of Columbus, NE, and Alexis and Allysen Purscell of Papillion, NE; one brother-in-law, Verl Morey of Skelton, NE; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 17, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
