James Edward Carlson, the son of Edward and Henrietta (Rinken) Carlson, was born on April 13, 1943 in Hastings, NE. He received his early education attending school in rural Spencer, Maple Hill, Iowa and Glenwood, MN where he graduated high school. One of Jim's accomplishments while in high school, he was the Minnesota State wrestling champion his junior year. Following graduation, Jim entered into the military with the U.S. Navy on January 9, 1964. Jim was honorably discharged due to medical reasons on September 25, 1964.
After his time in the service, Jim returned to Spencer and attended Larson's School of Beauty. He then opened New Image Salon where he operated it for five years. In 1972, Jim started working at Farm and Home Publisher's as a sales representative.
On July 24, 1976, Jim married Sandra Fuchs at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Jim was a member of the Evening Shade Lodge No. 312 A.F. & A.M. Jim liked woodworking, working in his yard, fishing, golfing but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jim also volunteered at the Y.M.C.A. working with kids, teaching them wrestling techniques.
Jim passed away on December 31, 2007, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Jerry Allen.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandy of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Shelley Ahlers and her husband, Joe of Laurens, IA; his three grandchildren: Olivia, Grant and Alexandra; his sister, JoAnne Freeburg and her husband, Ken "Butch" of Ridgecrest, NC; his mother-in-law, Janice Fuchs of Laurens, IA; his uncle Arnold and Virgy Rinken of Glenwood, MN; other aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 3, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer.
