James “Jim” Wendel Hartmann, the son of Clifford and Luella (Schmidt) was born April 5, 1949 in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Everly, IA area, where he attended school and graduated from Everly High School in 1967. He then graduated from Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon, IA as the first Carpentry class in 1969.
Jim married Nancy Jo Zimmer on July 19, 1969 at First Lutheran Church in Milford, IA. They made their home on a farm north of Everly. He worked as a welder, farmer, sold cattle equipment and raised buffalo. He enjoyed talking, western movies, Beach Boys music, preparing meals, smoking meat, making homemade applesauce, homemade beef stew, eating chocolate chip cookies, drinking cocoa, church pot-lucks, computer aided drafting (CAD), and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Jim passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at his farm, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Elenore Kunzmann-Hartmann, and a step-sister, Connie Kunzmann.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy of Everly, IA; 3 children, Kelly (Heidi) Hartmann of Spencer, IA, Michelle (Thomas) White of Elizabethton, TN, and Penni (Brian) Blank of Gardner, KS; 8 grandchildren, Briana (Ed) Simmons, Emily (Clint) Kiecker, Britney Hartmann, Kate, Rachael, and Andrew White, Makenzie and Brecken Blank; 3 great-grandchildren, Aris, Noah, and Isleigh; one brother, Joel (Susan) Hartmann of Everly, IA; 2 step-brothers, Craig (Linda) Kunzmann of Everly, IA and Rick Kunzmann of Sioux Falls, SD; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives; and many friends.
