James “Jim” Lawrence Reis, the son of Leon and Bernadine (Vodraska) Reis, was born February 19, 1957 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Pocahontas, IA, where he graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1976.
He met his soul mate and love of his life, Janna Ricklefs, whom he married on April 4, 1981 in Mallard, Iowa. James worked as a route salesman for a beer distributor for many years. He then worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years until his retirement in February of 2019. Jim enjoyed camping, spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren) and watching football with his buddies. He was an Iowa Hawkeye and New York Jets fan. James was a well-known guy and was never afraid to start a conversation with anyone.
Jim passed unexpectedly at the Spencer Hospital on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Reis.
He is survived by his wife, Janna Reis; a daughter, Missy (Wayne) Oatman of Humboldt, IA; two sons: Brian Reis of Des Moines, IA and Brad (Jenny) Reis of Spencer; grandchildren: Daymon, Ruthann and Ryann Oatman and Jalyn and Brandt Reis; his mother, Bernadine Reis of Pocahontas and sister, Peggy (Keith) Graversen; sister-in-laws: Dianne (Randy) Hough, Linda (Mark) Bredehoeft; mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Betty Ricklefs; nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Due to State and Federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. Private Family Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. The gathering will be family only, but the services will be livestreamed on the Warner Funeral Home facebook page.
