James LeRoy Olson, the son of Donald and Winifred Olson was born June 29, 1932, in Jackson County, Minnesota.
He graduated from the Royal High School in 1951. During his high school years, he worked for area farmers, drove school bus, did odd jobs and played basketball. Jim served in the Army from January 1953 to 1954 during the Korean War.
Jim married Nelda Kruse on February 11, 1955. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in rural Royal, Iowa.
Jim was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal, Iowa, and then First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa.
He was a lifetime farmer. He was interested in flying and received his certification. Upon retirement he enjoyed collecting sewing machines and quilting.
Mr. Olson passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, on Thursday June 27, 2019, at the age of 86.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Darca Kristine; his parents; one brother and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Nelda of Spencer, Iowa; two brothers and their wives: Raymond (Carol) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Alvin (Sheryl) of Carlisle, Iowa; 16 nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
