A Poem Given To Him
On His 70th Birthday
To The Best Dad I Ever Had:
Thank you for teaching me your baseball knowledge:
for all those hours you spent pitching to me to help me with my swing,
for all the time you spent playing catch with me to help me not "throw like a girl",
for all the one hoppers you threw to me so I could play first base well.
Thank you for helping me with school:
for all the hours you spent helping me with math,
for the trip we took to look at colleges.
Thank you for my athletic ability:
for all the times you played tennis with me,
for all the ping-pong balls we hit at the YMCA,
for all the racquetball games we played.
Thank you for helping me to the person I am today:
for joking and laughing with me and passing on your sarcastic sense of humor,
for taking me to the chiropractor when I was a child.
Thank you for being generous with your time:
for coming to almost all of my sporting events,
for our family trip to Colorado,
for all the times we went fishing.
Thank you for the quirky things we would do together:
for stopping at the bridge while on bike rides and spitting over the edge,
for getting hot tamales every time we filled the car up with gas,
for eating potato chips and dip on Sunday while football games were on.
thank you for wanting me, caring for me and loving me.
Thank you for wanting me, caring for me and loving me.
I am so lucky to have had you in my life for the last 35 years.
Your eternally grateful daughter,
Gail
