Jane Helen Thompson, the daughter of Harry and Dorothy (Sager) Garrelts, was born June 14, 1930 in Ayrshire, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Ayrshire, where she received her education, graduating from Ayrshire High School. She later continued her education, graduating from Colorado Women's College in Denver, CO in 1949.
Jane married Russell 'Jim' Thompson on October 19, 1952 in Ayrshire, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, where they made their home. Jim bought his grandfather's business, Jones Transfer and Jane was an active partner in the business for many years. In 1970, Jim and Jane moved to their home on Miller's Bay, West Lake Okoboji. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Milford. Jane was also active in the American Legion and enjoyed handiwork and gardening. Throughout her life, her family and her foster grandchildren at Dickinson County and Okoboji schools knew her as Mamma Jane and Grandma Okoboji. Jane also enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes and attending her grandson's activities. She also served on the City of Wahpeton Zoning Board for 25 years. Jane also enjoyed her job at Echo Plus, where she was actively employed from 2001 to 2007.
Jane passed away at the Lake's Regional Healthcare Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jim on July 16, 2005; her daughter, Barbara Morrison on June 13, 2010; brother, Franklin Garrelts and sister, Betty Ann Farrell.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Becky and her husband, Bart Smoot of Royal, IA, son-in-law, Richard Morrison of West Des Moines, IA; three grandsons: Zane Smoot and his wife, Kristi of Royal, Adam Morrison and his special friend, Tessa Whalen and Spencer Morrison of West Des Moines; brother: Jack Garrelts of Ayrshire, IA; two sisters: Marylea Clasing of Emmetsburg, IA and Judy Butterworth and her husband, Larry of Seeley Lake, MT; a special friend, Marilyn Eickholt; her granddogs; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 18, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church in Milford.
