Jane Marie Byrn, the daughter of Horatio and Kathryn (Morse) Kile, was born November 13, 1926, in Willoughby, Ohio. Her childhood years were spent in Kirtland, Ohio, where she graduated from Kirtland High School in 1944. She attended Baldwin Wallace Methodist College and graduated from Kent State University in 1948 with a degree in teaching.
On September 12, 1947, Jane married William 'Bill' Norman Byrn in Kirtland, Ohio. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Kirtland, where she taught school for 10 years. They later moved to Batavia, New York, where she continued raising her family. They moved to Spencer, Iowa, in 1973 when Bill was transferred with Eaton Corporation where they spent the rest of their lives. Jane was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer. She was also active in the community as a member or volunteer of the TTT women's group, the local ARC Chapter, which she helped to create, Golden K, Spencer Community Theater, Spencer Public Library, the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary, provided tutoring to elementary school children and Arts on Grand. She also enjoyed crafts, gardening, artwork, needlework, playing the piano, playing bridge, puzzles and reading. Bill passed away on December 17, 1989.
Jane married Clinton 'Ike' Hooven on August 30, 2003 in Spencer. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends in the community. Jane continued to live in Spencer after Ike's death in January of 2006.
Jane passed away at the Hillcrest Golden Living Center in Wayzata, Minnesota, on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bill; her second husband Ike, and a brother and his wife, George and Jeanne Kile.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Robin Byrn of Delton, Michigan, Becky Byrn-Schmid and her husband, Roger of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Jonathan Byrn and his wife, Susan of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Jennie Byrn of Spencer; Eight grandchildren: Bryan, Lynnsay, Greg, Kathryn, Marcus, Eryn, Alaura, and Kaitlin, honorary grandson, Mareach Angok; two great grandchildren, Eva and Adelie, and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Sunshine Center or the First Congregational Church both in Spencer.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, NOVEMBER 5, 2016 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
