Jane Schumann

Jane Marie Schumann, the daughter of Ralph and Hannah (Erpelding) Schacherer, was born February 15, 1940 in Estherville, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Estherville, where she received her education, graduating from Estherville High School. She continued her education at Stewart's College of Cosmetology in Sioux City, Iowa. Jane married John Elsenbast on December 1, 1962 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Estherville, Iowa. John and Jane adopted 4 children while living on their family farm in Graettinger. They then moved to Spencer where Jane owned and operated Mane Salon. She later opened the Outer Limits Roller Rink. Jane married Marvin Schumann August 28, 1981 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Following their marriage she worked at Cutty's in sales and for the past 10 years worked for Polaris Industries. Jane was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Moose Family Center where she attained College of Regents and volunteered in many capacities. Jane also enjoyed golfing, cooking, camping, bowling, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Jane passed away Sunday October 11, 2009 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband John Elsenbast, and infant sister, Judy. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marv; 4 children, Marie Elsenbast of Santa Rosa, CA, Susan Sanow, of Spencer, IA, Ralph Elsenbast of Houston, TX, and Robert (Lora) Elsenbast of Fostoria, IA; 3 grandchildren Alexa Sanow, Gracy, and Cade Elsenbast; 2 step-children Brad Schumann of Des Moines, and Shell (Dave) Littlepage of Phoenix, AZ; 2 step-grandchildren, Jordan and Jenifer Littlepage; 4 sisters, Darlene "Tootie" Lair, of Estherville, IA, Marion Mortenson of Estherville, IA, Marge Dalen, of Phoenix, AZ and Thelma "Obbie" (Dean) Brobst, of Graettinger, IA; and a brother Jerry Schacherer of Wallingford, IA.
