Janice Kay Swanson

     Janice Kay Swanson, the daughter of Leon Chris Swanson and Lela Brinkley, was born June 16, 1937, in Spencer, Iowa.  Janice received her early education and graduated from the Greenville High School.  She continued her education at Buena Vista University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

     Janice taught school for 37 years at Webb, Spencer, Ruthven-Ayrshire and substitute at Sioux Central and Clay Central.  She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer where she served on the Church Board, volunteered for the Parish News, helped Julie in the office and served on the board that started the Church Pre-School.  Janice lovingly cared for her sister Shirley while she was terminally ill as well as her mom, Lela for many years. In her spare time, Janice enjoyed reading, decorating, playing cards and eating with her favorite friends at the Highlands.

     She passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 84.  She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley (Loren & Steve) Campbell; brother, Jim (Opal) Swanson.

     She is survived by her brother, Chuck (Mary) Swanson of Clinton, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
