Janice Laureen Gustin

August 5, 1936 — September 18, 2008

Janice Laureen Gustin, the daughter of Leonard and Pearl(Middagh) Beck, was born on August 5, 1936 in Greenville, Iowa. Janice moved to Dickens when she was 5, where she attended elementary school and then graduated from Gillett Grove High School in 1954. Following graduation, she worked in Storm Lake at the extension service. Janice married Duane Gustin in March of 1956 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Dickens. Janice was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children and spending time in her garden. In the fall of 1965 she moved to Spencer and divorced in 1966. Janice attended the Spencer School of business and worked as a secretary for area businesses. In 1975 she bought the Mode-O-Day women's clothing store and operated that until 1983. Janice then sold insurance until her retirement. Janice was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Grace United Methodist Church and the Outstanding Young Women of America. She liked to collect angels and play the organ and piano. She was very involved in church where she taught Sunday school, attended bible studies and liked to share her Christian faith. Janice enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and she also went to Europe and Hawaii. Janice passed away at the Spencer Hospital on September 18, 2008 at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: David Gustin and his wife, Carolyn of Dickens, IA and Brent Gustin of Milford, IA; one daughter, Linda Gustin of Thornton, CO; one granddaughter, Mary Gustin of Dickens, IA; one brother, George Beck of Arlington, OR; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2008 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
