Jay Prather of Spencer, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on February 14, 2019, at his home.

   Jay Everett Prather was born April 28, 1959, to Virgil and Darlene (Amis) Prather in Spencer, Iowa.  He graduated from Spencer High School in 1977, and from Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1979, with a degree in Agriculture Banking.

   Jay lived most of his life in Spencer except when he was in college and when he lived and worked in Colorado.  When he moved back from Colorado, he worked as a Pressman at Heartland Press.  He also worked for his uncle, Everett Amis and various other places in Spencer.

   Throughout his life, some of his favorite things were to work on the farm, and volunteer for various groups in the community. He was involved with the Two Cylinder Club, Iowa Great Lakes Antique Auto Club, Albert City Thresherman’s Club and the First Congregational Church.  Jay was also a Mason.  For many years he spent every fall coordinating the Antique Car Club’s tent at the Clay County Fair.

   Jay is survived by his parents, Virgil and Darlene Prather of Spencer IA; brothers: John Prather of Spencer IA, and Jim (Barb) Prather and niece, Stephanie Prather of Hudson, IA; aunt, Verlie Amis of Greenville IA; uncle, Dana (Carole) Prather of Kansas City MO, and several cousins. 

   Jay is preceded in death by his grandparents: John and Elna Prather, Farris and Anna Amis; uncle, Everett Amis; and aunt, Geraldine Amis.

   Memorials may be directed to the family for later distribution.

SERVICES
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.

Masonic Services will be conducted by the Evening Shade Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M.
