Jerald Keith Fritz Westphalen, the son of Roy and Ethel (Mayhew) Westphalen, was born on October 21, 1934, in Royal, IA. He was raised and received his early education in Royal and graduated from Royal High School. After high school he worked for the Rock Island Railroad.
On June 1, 1957, Fritz married Marlene Klein. He entered into military on June 6, 1957, serving in the U.S. Army. He was stationed overseas. He was honorably discharged on May 26, 1959 and then served another 4 years in the Reserves. After his discharge he returned to the Royal area, where he worked for three different farmers as a hired hand. He then went to work for Cargill in Royal, where he worked for over 25 years, retiring in 1996.
He married Adeline Glander on December 20, 1986 in Royal. The couple enjoyed camping together as well as with their family. Fritz like to play golf in his younger years. He played baseball in high school and was a fan of the Twins and Cubs. He also followed the Vikings and sports in general.
Fritz passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at his home in Spencer at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Adeline in 2017; his daughter, Debra Cochran; his brother-in-law. Jack Morton and his niece, Karen Forsey
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Pam Orth (Paul) of Menomonie, WI and Diane Heidorn (Greg) of Perham, MN; his sister, Joyce Morton of Sherman Oaks, CA; his five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
