Jerry Robert Amundson, the son of Raymond and Hazel (Will) Amundson was born November 8, 1935, in Hartley, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Hartley where he received his education. In 1953, Jerry left school early and enlisted in the United States Marines, during the Korean Conflict. While with the Marines Jerry finished his schooling and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Jerry soon went to work on his Aunt's ranch in Wyoming. He eventually moved back to Hartley where he worked for the Hartley Creamery. He also had worked for the City of Hartley, was a meat cutter for the Hartley Packing Plant, founded his own honey bee business, and started his own locksmith business. Jerry attended NITC in Sheldon for two years where he studied carpentry. He was a handyman that enjoyed plumbing and hanging sheetrock.
Jerry was an active member of the American Legion in Hartley, were he served as Chaplin for many years. In his younger years he enjoyed trapping muskrat and beaver. He would stretch and tan his own pelts and sell them to fur companies. Jerry also enjoyed motorcycles and started the Road Rebel Club. He loved going to the movies and feeding squirrels and birds from feeders he made himself. Jerry loved to garden and grew organic vegetables. He was also an avid reader who enjoyed Louie L'Amour books.
On August 3, 2009, Jerry passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, following a long illness. He was 73. He was preceded in death by his wife Marian; his parents; and one brother, Raymond.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sisters: Florine Cox Curry, of Ponca, NE, and Barbara (James) Ver Huel of Omaha, NE; as well as several nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 11:30 A.M., Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Hartley.

Military services will be conducted by Arthur W. Kirchoff Post #228 of Hartley, Iowa at the Veteran's Memorial east of the Community Center in Hartley.
