Jessie Lee Brustares was born December 3, 1987, in Spencer, IA, and passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, in Sioux Falls, SD, following a sudden illness. He was 29 years old.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Peter Brustares, Jr.; his grandmother, Gwen Klatt; his aunt, Rhonda Louderback; and his uncle, Bob Klatt.
He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Lisa Klatt, of Graettinger, IA; his brother Jerimiah Klatt, of Graettinger, IA; his grandmother Marilyn Brustares, of Spencer, IA; his grandfather, John Klatt, Sr., of Melvin, IA; his significant other, Brenna "Bee" Keeling, who lived with him in Spirit Lake, IA; his many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and friends too numerous to count.
Jessie was a dedicated student at Iowa Lakes Community College, where he majored in Broadcasting. He aspired one day to host his own radio show on NPR. In the meantime, he honed his skills by hosting and appearing on several podcasts and writing a blog. Jessie was a talented singer and DJ, and always enjoyed his weekly karaoke job, where many people came to hear his trademark wit and his amazing singing voice.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing football, softball, and fishing with his dad. In his 20s, he entered the world of MMA/cage-fighting, where he excelled in the Heavyweight division. He was a life-long New York Jets fan, which was a pretty lonely business in the middle of Iowa.
Jessie had a big heart and an even bigger sense of humor. He could be found at different public gatherings holding up his signature "Free Hugs" signs, and made many new friends that way. He was the master of practical jokes and terrible puns. What we remember him for most is his big laugh and his one-of-a-kind smile, which we will miss terribly. He brought joy and laughter to so many, and his family hopes that his memory will continue to do so.
