Jim Harold Hass, the son of Harold and Beulah (Purcell) Hass, was born on February 8, 1941, in Sutherland, IA. He was raised and received his early education there, graduating from Sutherland High School. After graduation he ran the Champlain gas station for a few years. In 1965 he started in the insurance business in Sutherland.
On June 1, 1968, Jim married Katharyn (Sue) Robb in Cherokee, IA. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Peterson, where Jim started Arrowhead Insurance Company. He retired in 2015.
Jim enjoyed collecting anything and everything. In the spring of 1994, he moved a large red barn to Peterson and began to build “Jim’s History Barn”, where he displayed his collectibles. He had military memorabilia and Indian artifacts and many other treasures. In 2015, Jim was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution National History Award, which he was very proud of. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Jim passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Nick and his best friend, Allie dog.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue of Peterson, his three sons: Robert and his wife, Lisa of Patrick Draw, WY and daughter, Allison; Brian and his wife, Tammy of Harrisburg, SD and their children: Brynn, Bryanna, Brittany, Trevyn and Tyler; and Jason and his wife, Nele of Peterson, IA and their children: Ayden, Avery and Adrian; other relatives and many friends.
