James 'Jim' Keith Reed, the son of George and Rosamond (Deegan) Reed, was born November 9, 1931 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Peterson, where he received his early education, graduating from Peterson High School. He later received his BA degree from Morningside College. Jim entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from 1953, until his honorable discharge in 1955. After his discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Iowa Graduate School.
Jim married Luella Kracht on June 1, 1958 south of Peterson, Iowa at St. John's Church and they lived in Peterson. Jim began his career with Job Service of Iowa working with the farmers and then was promoted to Manager of the Spencer, Iowa office, where he worked until his retirement. Jim and Lue moved to Spencer in 1970. Throughout the years, Jim enjoyed working on old cars, tractors and motorcycles, especially his old 1927 Harley-Davidson. He was an active member of Iowa Great Lakes Antique Auto Club. Jim also enjoyed fishing, bowling, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching football, listening to Opera music but most of all spending time with the grandchildren.
Jim passed away at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the age of 81. His parents and a sister, Betty Massa, preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lue of Spencer; his children: Don (Gay) Reed of Mantorville, MN, Roger (Cherri) Reed of Pierre, SD, Mark (Sue) Reed of LeMars, IA, Aaron (Lauri) Reed of Raleigh, NC and Beth (Brian) Stember of Farmington, MN; 8 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Weber of Arlington, VA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
