Joan Louise Bailey

    Joan Louise Bailey, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Daniels) Simonsen, was born July 14, 1937 in Spencer, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent in Sioux Rapids, where she received her education, graduating from Sioux Rapids High School.

     Joan married David Carroll Bailey on July 15, 1956, in Sioux Rapids.  Following their marriage, they lived on the West Coast until moving back to Sioux Rapids.  Joan was the Corporate Secretary/Treasurer at Simonson Iron Works, Inc., where she worked side by side with her husband, David for 39 years until her retirement in 2005.  They moved to Spencer in 2000.  She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, where she was active with the Grace Methodist Women.  She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

     She passed away at the Accura Health Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the age of 80.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David on May 21, 2008 and a brother, Jay Simonsen.

     Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Alan (Lisa) Bailey of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Bret Bailey (Laura Catania) of Chanhassen, MN; one brother, Troy (Cecilia) Simonsen; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
