JoAnn Cleo Lawson, the daughter of Earl and Frances (Stowe) Rogers, was born October 4, 1935, in Worthington, MN. Her childhood years were spent in Denison, IA, where she received her early education. Her family later moved to Spencer, IA, where she graduated from Spencer High School. She continued her education at Iowa Lakes Community College and later graduated from Buena Vista University.
JoAnn married William Lawson on June 21, 1953, at the Congregational Church in Greenville, IA. Following their marriage, she remained at home while Bill served with the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, they made their home in the Spencer area where JoAnn worked a variety of jobs. JoAnn and Bill co-owned Spencer Ready Mix where JoAnn was the bookkeeper and dispatcher for 29 years. She was a member of the Greenville Congregational Church. She was active in the Greenville and Spencer communities serving as past library board member, church board member and Sunday school teacher.
JoAnn passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William and sister, Saundra Newcomb.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Francie and Bob Rohrer of Bourbon, MO and Lori and David Wedel of Dawson, IL; two sons: Steve Lawson and Pam of Ft. Dodge, IA and Scott Lawson and Becky of Alleman, IA; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00P.M., Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
