Joann Erickson, the daughter of Francis and Julia (Elsen) Foreman was born March 2, 1939 in Council Bluffs, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Council Bluffs area where she attended school and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1957.
Joann married Marvin Mowery and to this union 5 children were born. She married Darwin Erickson on September 24, 1983 in Okoboji, IA. Joann worked for Smiths Jewelry and in the hospitality business.
Joann enjoyed crocheting cross stich and sewing. She was a member of the Women’s VFW Auxiliary, Women of the Moose with the great honor of Deputy Grand Regent for the International Moose Lodge, Bethany Lutheran Church, and a 60-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She volunteered for numerous events, including the Clay County Fair, Grand Avenue Community Outreach, Moose Lodge, Meals on Wheels, the Senior Center and other volunteer activities throughout the Spencer community.
Joann passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Steven, and a brother-in-law Jack Brown.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Darwin of Spencer, IA; 4 children, Michael (Teresa) Mowery of Milford, IA, Lynda (Gordon) Rademacher of Lakefield, MN, Gregory (Lisa Carlson) Mowery of Sioux Falls, SD, and Timothy Mowery of Spencer, IA; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Louise (Lee) Baglio of Omaha, NE and twin sister Jeannette Brown of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
