Joanne Evelyn Koch, the daughter of Melvin and Irma Ketelsen Humphrey was born September 29, 1930 in Spencer, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer, where she graduated from Spencer High School in 1948. She went on to attend the University of Iowa.
Joanne married the love of her life Maxwell Joseph Koch on March 26, 1951 in Spencer, IA. She owned and operated a drapery business for over 35 years.
Joanne enjoyed watching her grandchildren at their sporting events, sewing, reading, working on crossword puzzles together with Max, flower gardening and bird watching. She and Max also enjoyed many travels throughout the United States. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 60 years. Joanne will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and as a devoted friend to many.
Joanne passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max in 2016; her son, Jerry and great grand-daughter, Avery Engkjer.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Steve (Nanette) Koch of Sioux City, IA, Marty (Connie) Koch of Waconia, MN, Doug Koch of Phoenix, AZ and Kathy (Dave) Thome of Arvada, CO; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grand-children; other relatives and friends.
