Jody Elizabeth, daughter of Donald Leroy and Joan Marliene (Burke) Johnson, was born November 12, 1961, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She grew up in Ulm, Arkansas and Paullina, Iowa, where she attended Zion-St. John Lutheran School and graduated with the Paullina High School Class of 1980. She then took business classes at Northwest Iowa Technical College and began working for the Sutherland Courier.
On April 27, 1982, Jody was united in marriage with Michael Lee Syndergaard, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. Two sons, Kaleb and Jarod, were adopted into this family. Jody and Mike made their home in Sutherland and owned and operated the Munch Inn Restaurant and Nite Cap Lounge for a few years before establishing the Cargo Express convenience store franchise. After Mike passed away on October 13, 2006, Jody continued to operate the stores for many years and enjoyed interacting with her customers.
Jody enjoyed watching the sunrise. She cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Jody Syndergaard, age 54, of Sutherland, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Sioux Valley Regional Hospital in Cherokee.
Jody is survived by two sons: Kaleb Syndergaard and wife Keri of Sutherland, and Jarod Syndergaard of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren Chase and Baylee; three sisters: Marla Kraayenbrink and husband, Randy of Waverly; Amber Neumann and husband, Greg of Manning; and Carmen Cronk and husband, John of Mallory, New York; one brother, Burke Johnson and wife, Boni of Manning; one brother-in-law, Phil Syndergaard of Sutherland; and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her parents; and Mike's parents, Robert and Bernice Syndergaard.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
