Joe Allen Mugge, the son of Bennett and Patricia Mugge was born February 4th, 1959, in Spencer, IA. He was baptized at First Congregational Church of Spencer, IA, and confirmed at United Methodist Church in Royal, IA. His childhood years were spent in Royal, Iowa where he graduated from Clay Central-Everly in 1977.
Joe married Julie Anne Mickelson in 1985. Following their marriage, they lived in Lewisville, TX, where they started a family with the birth of their sons, Jeb Augustus Mugge and Josh Arthur Mugge. After a few years in Texas, they moved to Cherokee, Iowa to raise their children and be near their families.
As a bricklayer and stonemason by trade, he was known to rarely ever miss a day of work and became a foreman for the masonry companies he worked for over the years. Joe loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed manning the charcoal grill entertaining friends and family. Sports, specifically the Dallas Cowboys and Iowa Hawkeyes, remained a major part and interest throughout his life that he also shared with his sons.
He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back and always left you with a smile on your face. Joe enjoyed bringing out the best in others whether it was his co-workers, family, or friends. He was actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous in the last decade of his life and recently received his ten-year sobriety chip.
Joe passed away suddenly at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA on July 31st, 2021, at the age of 62. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Left to cherish his memory are his three siblings: Jeff Mugge, Carol (Brian) Kipfer, and Nancy (William) Metcalf; former spouse: Julie Mugge; significant other: Ellie Bell. Joe is survived by many friends and loved ones, namely his sons Jeb Mugge and Josh (Nicki) Mugge; to whom he meant the world.
