John Albert Lawson

John Albert Lawson, the son of William S. and Carrie E. Grewel Lawson, was born February 26, 1912 in Rossie, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the Greenville, Iowa area, where he received his education, graduating from Greenville High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army during WWII from February 1943, until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. John married Agnes Chestelson on December 9, 1946 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer, Iowa. John worked as a carpenter in his early years. Later, he worked for Swift & Company as a truck driver for 15 years and Witt Sales as a foreman for 15 years, before retiring in 1974. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. He also enjoyed woodworking and his activities at the VFW. John passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes on March 16, 1997; an infant son, Dennis; one brother, Loren and seven sisters: Stella Olson, Esther Walker, Edna Otto, Cora Costello, Florence Bushey, Viola Wastney and Louise Watts. He is survived by one daughter, Barb Meyer and her husband, Steve of Spencer, IA; three grandchildren: Dr. Shawn Meyer and his wife, Danielle and their son, Ty of Scottsdale, AZ, Corey Meyer of Dickens, IA and Ashley Meyer of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.
