John Arnold Hatten

September 21, 1934 — October 2, 2009

John (Jack) Hatten was born September 21, 1934 in Bancroft, IA to Frank and Gertrude Hatten. He received his education at St. John's Catholic School in Bancroft, IA. On July 12, 1961, John was united in marriage to JoAnn Lensing of Bancroft. To this union, they were blessed with 5 daughters, Lisa, Lori, Julie, Angie and Mari Beth. Their early marriage years were spent in Bancroft until John joined Gambles and moved to Carroll, Perry, Spencer, Centerville and back to Spencer in 1977. In 1981 John fulfilled a life-long dream by opening a family restaurant in Spencer named "Dad's Place". After 15 years of making faithful friends there, John retired. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, until he could no longer be a lector or usher, due to his illness. John enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed many sports and was an avid fan of the Dodgers and Iowa Hawkeyes. John passed away peacefully on October 2, 2009, at Longhouse Residence. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jo; 5 daughters, Lisa Bradley of Iowa Falls, Lori Holstein of Spencer, Julie Clark (Ed) of Marshall, MN, Angie Loberg (Merlin) of Omaha, NE, and Mari Beth Ahart (Jon) of Stewartville, MN; 10 grandchildren: Corey & Derek Bradley, Kristi, Jenny & Tommy Clark, Jacob & Matthew Loberg, Emily, Haley & Lucas Ahart; brother, Harold (Isabelle) Hatten of Pinnellas Park, FL and sister, Joan Gochenour of Burke, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents, and 8 siblings: brothers, Elroy, Joe (Lefty) & Ronald; sisters, Elaine, Marcella, Lorraine, Frances & Mary Ann.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa.
