John 'Johnnie' Howard Heien

December 12, 1926 — April 12, 2012

John H. Heien, the son of Harm and Mamie Pickinpaugh Heien, was born December 12, 1926 at their home near Greenville, Iowa. He attended school in Greenville. During World War II, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December of 1944. He was at Great Lakes naval Training Station and then served on a ship in the Pacific as Signalman 3rd Class. John was honorably discharged in August, 1946. John married Ardis Gerking on October 2, 1948, in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, John worked as a painter/paper contractor for many years with the Koenen Brothers and later on his own. John was baptized and confirmed member of the First English Lutheran Church where he served in many offices through the years. He was also a long time member of the American Legion and V.F.W. John passed away on April 12, 2012, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 85. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ardis on December 28, 2008; son-in-law, Mike Conley and his step-mother, Fern. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Conley of Spencer; one son and his wife, Marc and Connie Heien of Spencer; one grandchild, Benjamin Heien of Spencer; one brother, Dennis Heien of Hartley, IA; one sister-in-law, Audrey Alfredson and her husband, Vernon of Sloan, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
