John Frans, 71, of Spencer passed away at his home June 16, 2015. In keeping with his wishes he was cremated and private family burial services will be held August 1, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
John Kenneth Frans the only child of Albert Kenneth and Dorothy Elizabeth (Danielsen) Frans, was born at the Naval Hospital in Bremerton, WA on April 15, 1944. After the war, the family returned to Minneapolis, MN where John attended school, graduating from West High School in 1963. He attended Parsons College in Fairfield, IA for a year and a half before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1965. He married Victoria Ford in 1965, and they were later divorced. After his honorable discharge in 1969, he returned to Minneapolis and attended Brown's School of Broadcasting. In April of 1970, he came to Spencer and was the night announcer at radio station KICD for 8 1/2 years. John married Donna (Koenen) Rose on June 20, 1978. He worked at Eaton Corporation and Pixler Electric before returning to radio in 1982 at KRGS in Spencer. In 1985, John began his sales career with the Janitor's Closet, General Machine Works, and The Monument Company until his retirement.
John had many interests and hobbies especially gardening, feeding and watching birds, fishing, target shooting, photography, yoga and was an avid cat lover having many furry companions during his lifetime. He was a member of American Legion Post #1 of Spencer and a past governor of the Spencer Moose Lodge. He loved volunteering and was on the Historic Preservation Commission, SPACE, and Clay County 4-H Shooting Sports where he was a rifle instructor.
John is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Chad Rose and his wife, Monica of West Des Moines; four grandchildren; mother-in-law, Virginia Koenen of Spencer; sisters-in-law, Linda (Tom) Valdahl of Decatur, IL, Patti (Ivan) Pixler of Custer, SD; his aunt, Frances Danielsen of Hyde Park, UT; and other family and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

John passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at his home in Spencer. His wishes were to be cremated. Private Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer..
