John Leslie Leonard

     John Leslie Leonard, the son of Sam and Eva (Albert) Leonard was born April 21, 1943 in Primghar, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Sutherland, IA area, where he attended country school and Sutherland Highschool, graduating in 1961. After school, John farmed and worked as a trucker. He married Linda Miller on May 12, 1963 at the Sutherland Methodist Church.

     John enjoyed farming, trucking, fishing, working with Belgian and quarter horses, going to the Clay County Fair, visiting family in Myrtle Beach, SC, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Saddle Club, and Sutherland Methodist Church.

     John passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers-in-law, Lou “Toby” Neiman and Darwin Gunnerson.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda of Sutherland, IA; 3 children, Alan, Kathy, and Richard all of Sutherland, IA; 4 grandchildren, Kate (Josh) Ries, Leslie (Rick) Benda, Zak (Janelle) Schnack and Samantha (Cody) Schnack; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Linn Leonard of Sutherland, IA; 2 sisters, Betty Nieman of Park Rapids, MN and Judith (Tom) Lorenz of Spencer, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

     *A time of food and fellowship will follow the interment at the Johannson Center in Sutherland.
