John Neary

John Lorig Neary, the son of Hugh and Lois Lorig Neary, was born March 21, 1950 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Emmetsburg, where he received his education, graduating from Emmetsburg Catholic High School. Later, John attended Emmetsburg Community College and then the University of South Dakota, where he graduated with a degree in accounting in 1972. After graduation, he worked for Dale Electronics in Columbus, NE. He moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and worked as a production foreman for Kawasaki. John married Claudia Young on February 24, 1979 in Cozad, Nebraska. Following their marriage, John worked for the State of Nebraska Retirement Systems in Lincoln, as an accountant. He then worked as a controller at Eagle Construction Company, until moving to McCook, NE, where he worked as a controller for Cornbelt Chemical Company. John and Claudia moved to Webster City, Iowa, where he worked at Van Diest Supply as an assistant treasurer. They had recently moved to Spencer, Iowa, where he had currently been employed as an accounting supervisor at Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg, IA. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. John was very active in the Knights of Columbus and his church and was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Webster City and was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Spencer. He was also a Cub Scout leader, was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas School Board in Webster City and taught religious education for several years. John loved his family and was very proud of his Irish heritage and his Nebraska Cornhuskers. He also loved music and model railroads. John passed away at his home in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, August 31, 2007 at the age of 57. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: James and Helen Neary, Mildred and Fred Lorig; his sister, Anne Neary and his father-in-law, Neil Young. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Claudia of Spencer; one daughter, Kylie and one son, Brian of Spencer; his parents: Hugh and Lois Neary of Emmetsburg; two brothers: H. Michael and his wife, Jeannine Neary of Ottumwa, IA and Mark and his wife, Johnna Neary of Iowa City, IA; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Young of Cozad, NE; a sister-in-law, Sheila and her husband, Bob Hardt of St. Louis, MO; a brother-in-law, Marcus and his wife, Mindy Young of Cozad, NE; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 3, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Sunday evening at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer. A Knights of Columbus service will be held at 6:00 p.m. and a Catholic Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, all at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

INTERMENT
Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, at St. John's Cemetery in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Memorials can be given to: Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation; Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spencer, Iowa; or Holy Family Catholic Church, Emmetsburg, Iowa.
