Johnnie Anthony Steward

Johnnie Anthony Steward, the son of Archie and Florence Newman Steward was born September 27, 1919 in Memphis, TN. His childhood years were spent in the Memphis and Mason, TN area, before moving to the Webb, IA area. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1943. Johnnie married Wanda Goodin on July 17, 1943 in Elk Point, SD. They moved to Spencer, IA where he worked construction, before working for the packinghouse. He then owned and operated Fostoria Grocery and Locker, before working as a government meat inspector for the USDA. Johnnie enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, playing cards, telling jokes, Beekeeping, and family dinners. He was a member of First Christiann Church in Spencer, and past Secretary, Treasurer, and President of AFL/CIO Meat Cutters Association. Johnnie passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Milford Care Center in Milford, IA, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Wanda; one son, Jonathan Steward; 2 sisters, Mary Jo Glick and Kathryn Steward; and one brother, Gerard Steward. Left to cherish his memory are 2 children, Daniel (Patti) Steward of Brighton, CO and Kathleen Shatto (Gale Jacobson) of Fostoria, IA; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
