Joleen Beth Espey, the daughter of Joseph and Bertha (Hofmeyer) Kleinhesselink, was born on September 4, 1944 in Orange City, IA. She was raised in Boyden where she attended country school and later graduated from Boyden High School. During her childhood years she attended the Newkirk Church.
In 1963, Joleen married Myron Klaassen, to this union four children were born: Kevin, Kirk, Korey and Keith. Joleen worked as a nurse's aid but spent most of her time staying home to raise her children. After divorcing, she lived in Hartley and then moved to Spencer in the early 1980's.
On July 30, 1993, Joleen married Joseph Espey in Sioux Falls, SD. She held various jobs in the community most notably working at St. Luke Nursing Home for about ten years. Joleen retired in 1994, when she was diagnosed with MS. Joleen loved to sing and spend time with her family and friends.
Joleen passed away at Avera-McKennan on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the age of 64. She was preceded in death by her father; her mother-in-law, Edna Espey and two grandchildren, Levi and Kyler Klaassen.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joe of Spencer, IA; her mother Bertha of Orange City, IA; her four sons: Kevin and Teresa of Sibley, IA, Kirk of Alta, IA, Korey of Newton, IA and Keith of Sanborn, IA; 9 grandchildren; 4 great- grandchildren; two brothers: Larry and his wife, Audrey Kleinhesselink of Alton, IA and Rev. Charles "Chuck" and his wife, Nelva Jean Kleinhesselink of Everson, WA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
There will be a lunch served immediately following the funeral services at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
