Josephine Alice Beving

 Josephine Alice Beving, the daughter of Alfred and Bertha (Speed) Simonsen, was born on April 29, 1940 in Sioux Rapids, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Arnolds Park.  She attended school in Arnolds Park and also in Milford. She graduated from Arnolds Park High School. After graduation, she attended Business School in Minnesota for two years.

      On July 31, 1959, Josephine married Alan Beving. They farmed east of Fostoria. To this union two children were born: Sheila and Brad. Josephine was a homemaker and enjoyed living on the farm.

     Josephine started working at the Spencer Hospital as a nurse’s aide in 1972. In 1974 she remarried and relocated to South Dakota. In 1978 she moved back to Spencer and was employed as a bookkeeper and receptionist. She divorced in 1983. She then worked at the Tangney Hotel, waitressed and bartended at Sarg’s and spent several years at KFC. She retired in 2002. Jo was an active member of the Ladies of the Moose and with the Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed making crafts and flower arrangements and she loved to read. Jo was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

     Josephine passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Northshire in Spencer at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Alan, and a nephew, Daniel Simonsen.

     Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sheila J. Beving of Denver, CO; her son, Brad Beving (Lorelei) of Hartley, IA; her step-daughter, Angie Moore of Ayrshire, IA; her grandchildren: Clarissa Kollbaum (Zach) of Lincoln, NE, Michelle Beving (fiancé Matt Christen) of Des Moines, IA and Alan Beving of Hartley, IA; her sister, Sharon Coulter (Darold “Lefty”) of Lamberton, MN; her brother, Darrell Simonsen (Dee Tolhurst) of Lake Benton, MN; several nephews and a niece; other relatives and friends.
