Josephine Louetta Erickson was born on May 5, 1931 in Sioux Rapids, IA to parents Lars and Mabel Erickson. Her mother died when she was 2 ½ years old. When her father could no longer care for the family, Josie and Eileen stayed with an aunt and uncle and then on to Woodworth home until the age of 16. She met Harold Wo was the lawn keeper. They were married on March 13, 1959 in Council Bluffs, IA. They were married for 54 years, living in Spencer, IA for most of them.
Josie worked as an aide for 18 years at St. Luke’s in Spencer. She loved to help others. She was always ready to help, and also got into trouble sometimes for being too helpful. Her jokes were a highlight when talking with her. She loved to have a good time and was kind to everyone. She loved to crochet and make many hot pads, flags, doilies, and quilt blocks. In the chapel at Riverview Terrace she had two displays of her work, praying hands and an angel. She entered many times at the Clay County Fair and won many blue and red ribbons. Her favorite snacks were popcorn and corn puffs. She loved to listen to gospel music and loved our Lord and Savior.
Josephine peacefully passed away on May 11, 2022 of a lingering cancer bout at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Carl “Swede” Erickson, sisters, Maxine, Madeline, Bonnie, Eileen, and Neana.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Ardis Erickson, Elaine Jonkheer, Sharon and Marvin Winkel; Brother, David Bobbi Kardell; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
