Joy Marie Austad, the daughter of William and Alice (Zick) Walterman was born October 19, 1946, in Madison, SD. Her childhood years were spent in the Madison area where she attended school and graduated from Madison High School. After graduation Joy moved to Aberdeen, SD, where she attended Northern State College.
Joy married Verdon Austad on December 10, 1966, in Aberdeen, SD. She worked as a waitress before moving to Milford, IA, in 1973 and started working for Stylecraft until her retirement in 1993.
Joy enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, watching her TV shows, having nachos and margaritas and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Joy passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 70. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Verdon of Fostoria, IA; 3 daughters: Tina (Jimmy) Stewart of Spencer, IA, Sherry (Jeff) Spencer of Fostoria, IA, and Danice (Jack Kropf) Matthews of Estherville, IA; 6 grandchildren: Elice, Zakry, Shyan, Austin, Maisey, and Mikayla; 2 great-grandchildren: (with one on the way) Kasch and Kamdyn; 3 brothers: Donald, Dean, and Dan Walterman; other relatives and many friends.
