Joyce Ann (Kruse) Sabel

   Joyce Ann (Kruse) Sabel, age 56 was born on November 24, 1961.
   
   She passed away on August 23, 2018, at Kavanagh Hospice House due to ovarian cancer after fighting it for nearly seven years. Her funeral will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal, Iowa, on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation with the family will be one hour before the service.

     Joyce lived on the Kruse family farm near Royal her first 18 years. Joyce graduated from Clay Central High School in 1980. She received an Associate of Business degree in 1982, from Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa. She lived and worked in the Storm Lake area for 15 years. Citizen’s 1st National Bank, Buena Vista Stationary and Printing, Western Iowa Synod of ELCA, and Buena Vista Work Activity Center were her employers during this time. Joyce was a member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, a member of the Senior Choir, pianist for the Junior Choir and Sunday School. Accompanist for special music groups and played piano for a few weddings.

     Joyce married Tom Sabel on July 19, 1997, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal where she was also baptized and confirmed. She and Tom moved to Spencer and worked while attending Buena Vista University’s Spencer site. Joyce received her BA degree in 2001. In December of 2000 they moved to Newton, Iowa. She worked at Grinnell Mutual Insurance Company and Caldwell Law firm. In 2006 she started working for the State of Iowa, Department of Education until November 2017. Joyce was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Newton, Iowa.

     Joyce is survived by her husband, Tom and cat, Sidney of Urbandale, IA; parents, Roger and Betty Kruse of Peterson, IA; step-son and wife, Brian and Jaime Sabel of Memphis, TN; step-daughter, Jennifer; and step-grandson, Jon of Dallas Center, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Joyce Kruse of Everly, IA; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Steve Golay of Perry, IA; nephew and wife, Javan and Danielle Kruse and their children Ali and Nate of Hartley, IA; niece, Alecia and husband, Casey and their son, Luke of Alta, IA; brother-in-law and wife, Joe and Denise Sabel of Sisseton, SD, and their son Jeff of Big Lake, MN; brother-in-law and wife, Matt and Laurie Sabel and their children Jacob ,Emily and Jamie of Big Lake, MN; plus many other relatives and friends.

     Joyce was predeceased by her Maternal and Paternal Grandparents, Uncle Dick and Aunt Sis Petersen, Cousins David Petersen, Jolene Munson, Stan Munson, and Marcus Sabel.

Funeral services will take place 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, August 28, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal, IA.
