Joyce Schnider

Joyce Ann Schnider, the daughter of Carl and Gwendolyn Anderson Van Hooser, was born November 2, 1935 in Peterson, Iowa. She received her early education and graduated from the Alta High School in Alta, Iowa in 1954. On July 31, 1960, Joyce married Alvin Schnider in Spencer. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. Joyce was employed at Farm Bureau and ASCS in the early years and then the Spencer Hospital for 44 years until her retirement. Joyce also worked at the Clay County Fair for 27 years. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer where she was active in the United Methodist Women and at one time held the position of Treasurer. She also volunteered with the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary and Hospice of Spencer Hospital following her retirement. In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed baking, reading, traveling, listening to classic country music along with Lawrence Welk and Elvis. Joyce passed away at Longhouse Residence on March 12, 2016 at the age of 80. She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Kenneth, brother, Jerry Van Hooser and sister, Clarice (Russel) Madden, her in-laws, Matt and Daisy Schnider, twin sisters-in-law, Marlene Freeburg and Arlene Nichols and niece, Gayle Carter. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alvin of Spencer; son, Todd Schnider of Spencer; daughter, Tammy (Chris) Swarts of Clayton, NC; grandson, Drew Swarts; twin granddaughters, Jenna and Emma Swarts; sister, Janice Peterson of Greenville, IA; brother, Jerold (Karen) Van Hooser of Florida; sisters-in-law: Mavis Applegate of Columbus, NE, Norma Lee (Marvin) Jans of Fostoria, IA, JoAnn (Bryon) Thelen of Milford, IA, Carol (Roger) Steely of Spencer, IA, brother-in-law, Steve (Debbie) Schneider of Columbus, NE, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
