Juanita Hicks

Juanita 'Nita' Ober Hicks, was born in Galveston, TX on May 11, 1937, the daughter of Henry John Ober and Virginia Rivas Ober. She attended school in Galveston, graduating from Ball High School in 1955. Nita married Les Hicks in 1972. Les brought with him into the marriage two daughters, Leslie and Becky, whom Nita loved and cherished. Nita worked at Monsanto in Texas City for a number of years and at UTMB in Galveston. In 1991, Les and Nita moved to Spencer, Iowa. Nita worked at Northwest Aging Association in Spencer for 6 years, retiring in December 2004. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women. She helped with the Prayer Shawl Program and Spiritual Banquet along with being a Sunday School Facilitator. Nita also served as co-president of the Spencer Women's Club. She was a long time member of a small book club which she looked forward to. Nita enjoyed family and friends, traveling, reading and attending the theater. Nita passed away on June 4, 2015 at her home in Spencer at the age of 78. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Helen Kreger and her brother, Clyde Ober. She is survived by her husband, Les; two step-daughters, Leslie Coughenour and husband, Keith of Lawton, OK and Becky Robinson and her husband, Bruce of Larchmont, NY; granddaughters: Brittany of Lawton, OK, Julia, Sophie and Amanda of Larchmont, NY; one sister, Peggy Armstrong of Texas City, TX, special niece, Michelle Boening and special nephew, Richard Armstrong.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 8, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
