Kandace Kae Spencer

Kandace Kae Spencer, the daughter of Imogene (Davis) and Kenneth Kruse, was born April 2, 1946 in Huron, SD. Her childhood years were spent in De Smet, SD, where she received her education graduating from De Smet High School. After high school, she attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, where she received her BA degree in Education. Kandace married Joseph "Joe" Spencer on August 3, 1968 in De Smet. After their marriage, she moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she taught school at South Clay High School from 1968 until the closing of the high school in 1993. She later was a substitute teacher at Okoboji schools for a couple of years, where she was able teach her grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Spencer. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, baking, watching jeopardy, cheering on her Minnesota Vikings, debating politics and most importantly spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Kandace passed away, following a short illness, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dawn Gunn. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joe of Spencer; one son, Jeff and his wife, Sherry Spencer of Fostoria, IA; two grandchildren: Elice and Austin Spencer; one great grandson, Kasch Spencer; two sisters: Mary Beth Jacobson and her husband, Bob and Cecile Wollman and her husband, Merle all of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother, Ross Bjordahl and his wife, Pam of Olpe, KS; Vivian Bjordahl of De Smet, SD; many other relatives and friends.
