Karl Eugene Baish, the son of Ernest and Emily (Kachele) Baish, was born on May 12, 1928, on the family farm in the rural Spencer area. He attended country schools in Clay County and graduated from Greenville High School. After his schooling, he worked for several area farmers until entering the military. Karl entered the military on March 7, 1951, and served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on February 24, 1953.
He married Janice Rae Lundt on December 4, 1954, in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed her family farm near Linn Grove until their retirement in 1995. Karl was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer and served on several boards. He was a member and past officer of the American Legion Glen Pedersen Post #1 of Spencer. Karl loved building things and tinkering around on the farm. He enjoyed cards and playing pool at the Senior Center, as well as attending his granddaughter, Sarah’s school events. He enjoyed going to the Pizza Ranch with his family every Tuesday, and to HyVee for coffee with his friends. Karl could sit and visit with anybody.
Karl passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice in 2003; two brothers: Elmer and Ernie; and two sisters: Helen Christenson and Viola Johansen.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, David and wife, Rhonda of Spencer, IA; one granddaughter, Sarah Jones and husband, Wes of Cedar Falls, IA; one brother, Earl Baish and wife, Betty of Milford, IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
