Kathleen 'Kay' A. Filloon

Kathleen A. "Kay" Filloon, the daughter of John and Margaret (Walsh) Ford, was born December 24, 1930 on a farm northwest of Laurens, Iowa. She was raised on that farm and attended country school through the 8th grade. She later attended and graduated from Laurens High School in 1949. Following high school, she continued her education at Cedar Falls, IA, where she received her teaching certificate at the Iowa State Teacher's College. She returned to Laurens to teach for a few years. Kay married Bill Filloon on June 26, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens. Following their marriage, they lived in Milford, Humboldt and Laurens before settling in Spencer in 1963. Kay raised her family and worked as a clerk at Wonder Bread. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She remained in Spencer, until the last 6 months, where she moved to Clinton, Iowa to be closer to family. Kay passed away at the Alverno Health Care Center in Clinton, Iowa on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill on November 26, 1995; four sisters: Frances Cole, Mary Deacon, Gertrude Crotty, and Margaret Dorrell and a brother, Robert Ford. Left to cherish her memory are one son, Joe of Oxford, IA; six daughters: Anne & Jan Johnson of Walford, IA, Jane Stanton of St. Charles, IL, Carol & Roger Wilkens of Fulton, IL, Lynn & Todd Erwin of Morton, IL, Lori & Mike Streb of Iowa City, IA, and Amy & Brad Smith of Spencer, IA; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister:, Ellen Sandvig and her husband, Kenny of Spencer, IA; other relatives and friends.
