Kathryn A. Johnston, the daughter of Andrew and Kate (Burke) Johnson, was born July 26, 1922 on a farm near Anita, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Atlantic, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Atlantic High School in 1939. Following her schooling, she worked as a telephone operator for the telephone company in Atlantic. She later worked for Nelson Automotive in Atlantic. In 1952, Kathryn moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she became part owner of Johnston Automotive. She sold her interest in Johnston Automotive in 1978, but continued to work there as a bookkeeper until the time of her death after 62 years in the auto parts business. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Kathryn was also active in the community with the TTT and the Clay County Federated Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, yardwork, attending the Okoboji Summer Theater throughout her years and she was an avid bridge player. Kathryn passed away at her home in Spencer on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents: Kate and Andrew; a brother, Dale in infancy and a nephew, George Dennis. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Eileen Dennis of Atlantic, IA; her niece, Carol Hansen that lived with Kathryn for the last 17 years of Spencer; four nephews: Dr. David L. Dennis and his wife, Patricia of Redding, CA, Bob Dennis and his wife, Pat of Atlantic, Mike Dennis and his wife, Betty of Atlantic, Bill Dennis and his wife, Cathy of Anita, IA; numerous great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. A Catholic Vigil service will be held 5:00 P.M., Friday and a Catholic Rosary will be held following the Vigil Service at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin 3:00 P.M., Friday,January 29, 2010. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Friday Evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
