Keith Louis Mortensen, the son of Louis and Carrie (Petersen) Mortensen, was born January 24, 1943 in Hartley, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Royal, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating from Royal High School.
Keith married Marjorie Johanson on June 17, 1962 in Royal, Iowa. After their marriage they continued to live in Royal, where he worked for many years at his business, Mortensen Construction, building many homes and kitchens. Keith enjoyed his cabinetry and finish work and was very proud to provide his work. In retirement, Keith continued to enjoy his woodworking as well as building fishing poles, fishing and spending time fishing with his grandchildren. He was a loyal member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and had served on the church council.
He passed away at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the age of 75. Keith was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roger and an infant sister.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marj of Royal; three daughters: Teresa (Francis) Spear of Spencer, Susan (Zach) Larsen of Sanborn, Kelly (Mark) DeYoung of Casa Grande, Arizona and one son, Brian (Stephanie) Mortensen of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Karen Mortensen of Mesa, AZ; other relatives and many, many friends.
