Kenneth Edsel Klatt, the son of Emil and Etta (Steffen) Klatt was born on August 4, 1927, in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the Royal, Iowa, area where he attended country school and graduated from Rossie High School in 1945. He was baptized and confirmed in the Royal Lutheran Church.
Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was later drafted into the U.S. Army where he served until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. He returned to farm near Royal, Iowa, then farmed near Eagle Bend, Minnesota, returned to Iowa and worked at the Rossie Elevator.
Ken married Dorothy Mertens on March 10, 1956, in Jackson, Minnesota. He enjoyed farming, working, painting buildings with his twin brother, and watching Twins baseball. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa, where he was a long time custodian.
Ken passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee, Iowa, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers: Wayne, Dale, and William; two sisters, Bonnie Jones and Lorna Hine; brothers-in-law: William Breibarth, Delbert Mertens, Burdette Mertens, Glen Jorgensen and Durwin Wilcoxon; sisters-in-law: Crystal Klatt, Evelyn DeWitt, and Helen Jorgensen.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Cary (Pam) Klatt of Peterson, IA, Renee Klatt of Linn Grove, IA, and Paula (Carey) Hinkeldey of Alta, IA; six grandchildren: Megan (Chuck) Allison, Chris (Bree) Peterson, Stephanie (Jordan) Mandernach, Jeremy (Ashton) Peterson, Ashley Hinkeldey, and Alex Hinkeldey; seven great-grandchildren; one twin brother, Keith of Marathon, IA; one sister, Onalee Zymbricki of Ruthven, IA; four sisters-in-law: Delores Klatt, Mary Klatt, Betty Wilcoxon, and Marlene Mertens; other relatives and friends.
