Kenneth Lester Brinkley

October 30, 1919 — July 6, 2015

Kenneth Lester Brinkley was born October 30, 1919 on a farm outside of Dickens, Iowa. Kenneth was called to his heavenly home on Monday, July 6, 2015 at St. Luke Nursing Home in Spencer. He was the 9th of 14 children born to Ebb and Eva Content (Brown) Brinkley. He grew up in the Spencer, Langdon and Dickens areas, going to school through the 8th grade at Clay County schools. Kenneth served in the Army Air Force for 4 years, spending 2 1/2 years in England as an airplane engine mechanic returning to Spencer in December 1945. Kenneth married Virginia Ione Gosch on February 21, 1947 at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. To this union were born 3 sons: Roger, Gary and Kent. Kenneth was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church on March 30, 1947. He farmed in the Langdon and Spencer areas until retiring in 1984. He then spent several years helping others with lawns and maintenance. Kenneth was a charter member of the Sunshine Workers in Spencer and through the years served on several boards at First English Lutheran Church. Kenneth enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing his love of life, laughter and his faith. Kenneth enjoyed throwing horseshoes when families got together on Sundays or special occasions. Living family members include Virginia, his loving wife of 68 years; sons Roger (Ann) of Lynden, WA and Gary (Dorothy) of Hampton, IA; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Virginia Behrens of Milford, IA and Mary Schoning of Spirit Lake, IA. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents; son Kent; granddaughter Kimberly Brinkley; sisters Lela Swanson, Helen Hoffman, Loretta Iverson, Margaret Johanson and Ruby Fitzloff; brothers Verne, Roy, George, Dale, Wes and Donald.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 25, at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion - Glen Pedersen Post #1 of Spencer.
