Lanette Kay Kilpatrick

November 5, 1945 — April 14, 2022

Spencer

Lanette Kay Kilpatrick the daughter of Don and Opal (Thompson) DuBois, was born November 5th 1945 in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Sioux Rapids until moving to Spencer in 8th grade. Lanette graduated from Spencer High School in 1963.

Lanette met the love of her life, Kent Kilpatrick, while in high school. After dating for four years they married in Spencer on February 14, 1965.  They welcomed three daughters into their lives: Kim, Lori, and Tami. Throughout her life she worked at a variety of places in Spencer, with the most recent (1997-2013) as a paraeducator at Spencer Community School District.  A job she treasured, as she loved working with students.  After she retired, she thoroughly enjoyed being a volunteer at the Spencer Hospital, seeing and visiting with people.

The most important people in Lanette’s life were her husband and family.  She looked forward to family get-togethers, family reunions, birthday parties, holidays, and playing games. She was a woman of hospitality, always offering a cup of coffee, food, or a place to stay. Together, she and Kent were blessed with traveling to Morocco, Africa, Argentina, Canada, Alaska, New York City, and the Caribbean.  Many that knew Lanette called her Netty, and knew her to always have on beautiful jewelry and a matching purse. Lanette enjoyed tasty hamburgers, and fried chicken dinners.

Lanette passed away on April 14 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, IA following a three year battle with Alzheimer’s. Preceding her in death are her parents, in-laws Don & Lenora Kilpatrick, sister Ronette DuBois, granddaughter Lily Gilderhus, and nephew Mike Darnell.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 57 years Kent Kilpatrick of Spencer, daughters Kim (John) Baxter of Neola, IA, Lori (Chris) Swanson of Spirit Lake, and Tami (Scott) Gilderhus of Spencer.  Grandchildren Kellerie (Colin) Burns, Mitchell Carrigan, Sarah Carrigan, Cullen (Kenzy Lee) Carrigan, Drake Swanson, Piper (William) Cleveland, Grace Gilderhus, and Addison Gilderhus.
