Larry A. Johnson, the son of Arnold Monroe 'Stub' J and Irene (Perry)Johnson, was born on March 7, 1950 in Spencer, Iowa. He received his early education here and attended Iowa State University, graduating with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Animal Science in 1972.
Larry was involved in many different endeavors over the years. He was the former owner of Nice Man Merchandising, self employed in real estate marketing, originator of Global Hobo and an avid entrepreneur. He also was the recipient of numerous Rock and Roll Muic Awards.
Larry was a devoted father and husband. The name Nice Man Merchandising literally described Larry's business practices, generosity and commitment to his friends. Larry loved rock and roll, a party, a glass of brown whiskey and a good cigar...and he always hoped no one was having more fun than him. His nieces and nephews said, 'Everyone should have a cool uncle like Larry'. His Midwest upbringing instilled in him and ethic of hard work, honesty, respect and responsibility in every aspect of his life. Larry loved to travel around the world finding 'out of the way' places for new and exciting stories.
Larry passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder, CO at the age of 62.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jan Cole; his daughters: Samantha Cole Johnson and Minte Cole and a menagerie of pets (Ruby, Lily, Lucky and Pretty); his brother, Tom Johnson and his wife Debra; his mother-in-law, Gramma Jo; nephews: Ira Johnson (Robyn) and Ethan Johnson; nieces: Amanda Hoffman (Brett) and Kathryn Johnson; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
Following the service there will be a lunch served at the Spencer Golf and Country Club.
